Disney in Hawaii?  Yes, a Disney resort is under construction just across from the J.W. Marriott Ihilani Resort on Oahu's west side. The 21-acre oceanfront property is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011. Plans will include 350 hotel rooms, 480 Disney Vacation Club villas, 18,000 square foot spa, 8,000 square foot convention center and a water park. This is the first Disney resort not affiliated with a theme park. After all, Hawaii is the best natural theme park.

Four Seasons Hualalai is celebrating the results of the $40 million enhancement made to this AAA Five Diamond resort. If you have ever been there, you wonder what could they possibly do to make it better.
Hualalai Resort

The renovations include 20 new one and two-bedroom suites, all newly-furnished, with larger lanais and 180-degree views of the ocean. The Hualalai Spa has been doubled in size to 28,000 square feet with an open-air tropical garden setting. Now there are more ocean views at the redesigned Beach Tree restaurant, bar and lounge with new menus featuring locally grown ingredients.

Hulihe'e Palace is open to the public once again. One of the three palaces in the Hawaiian Islands, Hulihe'e closed after devastating earthquake damage and has undergone major renovations. It is located in the heart of downtown Kailua-Kona, across from the state's oldest church. From the time of its construction in 1838 up until 1925, the structure was passed down among members of the Hawaiian royal family. It was primarily used as a vacation home, but was converted to a museum after the Territory of Hawaii purchased it in 1925. The palace is currently maintained by the Sisters of Hawaii and has been the venue of choice for that very special evening of Hawaiian culture and catered ocean-side dining.

Kaua'i
St. Regis Princeville Resort is a beauty! Doors officially opened on October 1. The transformation from the Princeville Resort to The St. Regis Princeville Resort is amazing. The resort's main lobby and common areas feature native dark wood floors, ceilings of woven matting and large glass panels overlooking the ocean.

The 252 guest rooms ( including 51 ocean view suites), have been appointed in luxurious contemporary Hawaiian décor, custom furnishings and large, electronically controlled glass reveals.
Among other additions to the resort are the 10,000-square foot elegant Halele'a Spa offering a 24-hour fitness center, Prince and Makai Champion golf courses by Robert Trent Jones II and Kaua'i Grill by world renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Alii Nui 65'

Rated for 99 passengers, the 35-foot-wide yacht has more than double the capacity of the old Alii Nui. Instruction is given to individual needs and level of experience. After snorkeling you can "rinse-off" with a heated fresh water shower and enjoy a bountiful lunch.

Kahua Ranch, a spectacular place to be on the Big Island of Hawai'i

Kahua Ranch

In Hawaiian, Kahua means " the beginning, the source or the foundation". At an altitude of 3,000 feet this private working cattle and sheep ranch offers some of the most amazing vistas of the Big Island and the Pacific Ocean. Located on the western slope of the Kohala Mountain range, Kahua Ranch is about 45 minutes drive from the Kohala Coast resorts. The ranch's diversified agriculture includes introducing sheep ranching, hydroponic greenhouses and
solar energy.

Kahua ATV

Spend a full day at the ranch where you can horseback ride, hop on an ATV, go hiking, learn roping techniques, play horseshoes, watch the sunset eating barbecue beef dinner, and listen to cowboy stories around a campfire. The perfect place for an all day group event.

39th Annual Kona Coffee Festival  November 5-15, 2009

This year's theme is "Kona Coffee - Aroma of Aloha." This festival is recognized as the oldest and most successful food festival in Hawai'i. There will be nearly fifty events many of which are free to attend. The main event is the Gevalia Kona Coffee Cupping Competition where a panel of international judges conduct a blind tasting. Judges look for high marks in fragrance, aroma, taste, nose, aftertaste and body.

Kona Coffee Festival 2009

Of course in Hawaiian tradition, no festival is complete without a parade and this year is no exception. The Grand Parade includes colorful floats, costumed ethnic groups, marching bands and equestrian units following a route along Kona's oceanfront.

Christmas in Hawaii is filled with white puffy clouds, soft trade winds, sunny skies and lots of cheer. You might see a dusting of snow on the top of Mauna Kea on the Big Island. The humpback whales arrive from the north to play in the warm, calm waters of the Pacific. Palm trees and private lanais are decorated with multi-colored lights. Parks and playgrounds post signs of Christmas fairs. Festivities and concerts appear everywhere and the weekly caroling at Honolulu Hale (city hall on Oahu) is a tradition. Children expect Santa to arrive via canoe so they leave the lanai door open for him on Christmas Eve.
Because of Hawai'i's wonderful multi-ethnic population, a holiday dinner in the islands is always a blend of Hawaiian, Asian and European cuisine. Many Hawaiians enjoy the traditional roast turkey with stuffing, gravy and mashed potatoes but other dishes turn up for a gathering as well.
  • sashimi ( raw fish- a must at any New Year's feast)
  • lumpia (deep fried spring roll filled with bananas, veggies or beef)
  • tonkatsu (breaded, deep-fried and sliced pork cutlets)
  • laulau (baked pork and fish bundled in taro leaves)
  • Opulehu' short ribs ( Hawaiian style barbeque)
  • meat jun (minced beef in egg batter, pan fried)
  • somen noodle salad (boiled somen noodles garnished and chilled)
  • vinha doahlos (pork butt roasted with garlic, vinegar and chili peppers)
  • light dishes such as sushi rice, kim chee, fish cake, lomi salmon, and crisp wontons
Cultures may be diverse and traditions may vary but the wishes of the season are always the same.....good health, much happiness and lots of Aloha!
