This event features five days of music, culture and arts. Over 100 artists will be performing at over 25 venues throughout Honolulu, culminating in the annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards Show. This is a great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the very best of Hawai'i's music and culture.
Padovani's Chocolates are world-class chocolates sold at The Shops at Dole Cannery. The Padovani brothers create chocolates with various fillings like Kau orange caramel, passion ganache and Kalamansi soft caramel. They make over 40 different chocolates, each with its own whimsical shapes-Tahitian vanilla soft caramel in the form of a miniature lobster, Hawaiian ginger ganache like a tiny bundt cake and Hawaiian Kona coffee ganache as-what else-a coffee bean. A favorite is the Kiawe honey ganache, in which the kiawe honey is distinctive and its sweetness tempered by the dark, bittersweet shell.

Phillippe Padovani ended up in Hawai'i from France as the executive chef at Halekulani's La Mer Restaurant, a short stint at the Ritz Carlton Mauna Lani Resort ( now the Fairmont Orchid) then on the Lana'i. He was among the ranks of Hawaii's top chefs that formed The Hawaiian Regional Cuisine movement in the 1990s. He opened his restaurant 'Elua' in Waikiki and then decided to 'make the best chocolate' out of Hawaiian cacao. He brought in his brother, Pierre Padovani, a master chocolatier from France. And the rest is history.

" An elegant boutique style hotel with superior service" are among the comments from recent guests.

Kauai'i is Pandora....AVATAR director James Cameron and some of the film's actors spent several days shooting scenes in the "Blue Hole" area above Keahua Arboretum at the base of Mt. Wai'ale'ale. Cameron pictured Padora to be a lush, rainforest - jungle environment with pristine waterfalls and
 Kauai'i fit the bill.
And another filmmaker will use Kauai'i as the backdrop for the fourth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" this summer.

POLO IN THE COUNTRY, MAU'I STYLE
Imagine - Watching a Polo Match on Mau'i!  Who Knew??
The Maui Polo Club carry on a paniolo (cowboy) polo tradition that has been a Maui institution for over 100 years. On the slopes of Haleakala, close to Makawao town, polo is played in the Manduke Baldwin outdoor arena. The horses aren't called polo ponies as in the early days of the sport, as Maui Polo players use an assortment of sturdy quarter horses, Appaloosas, and thoroughbreds. All other equipment is traditional such as English saddles, bridles, martingales, and colorful protective foreleg wraps.            Maui Polo  Polo has been around about as long as cavalry and warfare. The sport is thought to have originated in China or Persia about 2,000 years ago. Polo first came to Hawai'i via the British and U.S. upper classes (who learned it in England), and was initially a rich man's sport. The Maui Polo Club boasts 100 years of Sportsmanship - Horsemanship and ALOHA.
A drive up to Makawao is not only scenic, but there is lots to do...great restaurants, boutiques and galleries for shopping and you can say you watched Cowboy polo - Maui style!
Hawaii Anna's ranch pic Anna's Ranch in Waimea on the Big Island is open to the public.
In recognition of its importance, Anna's Ranch was placed on the Hawaii State Register of Historic Places in 2005, and on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Anna Lindsey Perry-Fiske, was known as "The First Lady of Ranching" in Hawaii. She was petite but mighty. During her long life she was a cowgirl, jockey, pa'u rider, licensed butcher, community leader, rancher, world traveler and humanitarian. A rare woman in any era but especially so in her lifetime!
In 1943, Anna married Lyman Perry-Fiske who was descended from another part-Hawaiian family from the district of Kohala on the Big Island.  Lyman, a keen horseman and rancher encouraged Anna in her innovative ranching practices such as introducing Brahma and Charolais bulls to improve her livestock.
The ranch house, built around 1910, and the out-buildings have been restored to a period reflecting both Anna's and her parents' time in residence. Beautiful gardens, the works of local artists, Hawaiian koa wood furniture, ranching gear and countless family photographs tell the story of their remarkable lives as ranchers in Hawaii's century of transition.

The Ranch is now open for tours of the home, grounds and space is available for private parties and special group functions. Just give Wendy Ottinger a call and she can create a wonderful venue for your next program on the Big Island. 877.472.6522 or email Wendy at wottinger@tmghawaiiltd.com

Hawaiian Monk Seal

"Ilio-holo-i-ka-uana" meaning 'the dog that runs in rough waters'

Monk Seal swimming The Hawaiian Monk Seals are sometimes rarely seen but when they appear basking in the sun on the beach do not approach them. They come ashore to rest. These seals are on the endangered list but experts are hopeful the animal's designation in 2008 as an official state symbol of Hawaii will boost seal numbers again. Monk Seals are the only tropical seal in the world. These seals get their common name "monk seals" because of their bald appearance, solitary habits and a fold of skin behind their heads which resembles a monk's hood.
In recorded history there have only been four seals born on the main Hawaiian islands. Two of those births occurred in 1991 on the North shores of Oah'u and Kaua'i. In both cases, volunteers from the community guarded the mother and pup from a distance to ensure that they would not be disturbed.
